It's all about 2021 Let's DMZ in Gyeonggi, Korea
The "2021 Let’s DMZ Peace Arts Festival" began on May 20. This festival is an event hosted by Gyeonggi-do to form a social consensus among global citizens who long for peace while sharing the special value of the Korean Demilitarized Zone.
The key message of this year’s "Let’s DMZ Peace Arts Festival" is "Peace, again." This message was chosen to conveys hopes for the restoration of the relationship between South Korea and North Korea as well as normalcy in our daily lives that was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the festival began with the "DMZ Art Project," an exhibition and experience program that will be held in Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park in Paju City from May 20. This will be followed by the "DMZ Forum" from May 21 to 22 and the "DMZ Concert" on May 22. The "DMZ Art Project" and "DMZ Concert" will offer various cultural performances for visitors to enjoy.
■ Area around Pyeonghwa Nuri Park transforms into a dynamic exhibition and experience space
First, the "DMZ Art Project" will run for about a month from June 15.The DMZ Art Project is an outdoor event held in the area around Pyeonghwa Nuri Park in Paju City. It was organized to promote the ecological, cultural, and historical meaning and significance of the DMZ, a space where inter-Korean exchange, the importance of peace and reunification, and division and restoration all coexist.

Under the theme "Division and Peace," approximately 200 works of art by 12 artists, including Kang Ik-jung, as well as performances by the Ahn Eun Me Company (AEMC), Ambiguous Dance Company, and other performers, will be presented to depict the ecology, peace, and future-oriented values of the DMZ. In addition to the art exhibition, there will also be the educational experience program "Dream Bridge" that connects both sides of Imjingang River with drawings that reflect dreams as well as a literary performance through which guests will be able to enjoy literature related to the DMZ and peace through recitals, mime performances, and singing on the weekend.
■ Expressing "Peace, Again" through the harmony of Western and Eastern music
At the "DMZ Concert," the DMZ Peace Orchestra (conducted by Kim Gwang-hyeon) – comprised of the members of the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic, and other performers – presented the harmony between Western and Eastern music. The orchestra expressed the theme of this year’s Peace Arts Festival, "Peace, Again," through performances that encompassed music from the Korean Peninsula and all over the world.The concert featured: pianist Lee Jin-sang and other world-class classical musicians; gugak-based artists such as Dongyanggojupa, Jambinai, and ADG7; singer-songwriter Gang Gwon-sun; and pop music artists beloved by many such as BewhY, Lee Hi, LA POEM, ELRIS, NCT Dream, YB, and more. In addition, videos of congratulatory performances by soprano Sumi Jo and classical pianist Yeol Eum Son were also screened.

The "2021 DMZ Forum" served as a venue for various discussions about inter-Korean cooperation and the peaceful utilization of the DMZ. It was successfully concluded with the adoption of the "2021 DMZ Forum Gyeonggi Peace Declaration" at the Comprehensive Round Table held on May 22.
Through the Gyeonggi Peace Declaration, DMZ Forum participants this year suggested ten proposals to overcome national division and realize peace on the Korean Peninsula based on the points discussed on May 21 and 22 and urged the related parties to take action.
