DMZ rolls 'A Symbol of Peace' of world. And as Gyeonggi-do embraces vast DMZ area of South Korea, the Province has been trying to introduce it in many ways.
Let's DMZ is the fruit of Gyeonggi-do's effort to make DMZ as a symbol of peace for a long time. This year, 2021 Let's DMZ is going on as peace and art festival through a year.
From 9 to 16 September 2021, 13th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival (DMZ Docs), one of most well known documentary festivals in the world, will be on the run to share messages preparing the new era.
This year, the aim was to enhance its status as a representative documentary film festival in Asia and present more excellent works by increasing prize money and reorganizing the awards field. As a result, 126 works from a total of 39 countries were selected for screening, and programming that combines professionalism and popularity will be presented. The festival will feature documentaries that have quality production value as well as accessible and relatable stories for the general public. You will be able to experience the joy and impact of documentaries through works that contain different themes in various forms.
A film festival preparing for the post-pandemic era
Theater screenings, which can be said to be the basis of the film festival, will continue, but a safe theater environment will be prepared in accordance with strict quarantine procedures and social distancing guidelines. At the same time, online screenings will be held simultaneously through VoDA, a streaming platform developed by the film festival, to prepare for the post-pandemic era and to increase the accessibility of the film festival.
After the festival ends, VoDA will be operated as a documentary OTT that streams various domestic and foreign documentary works. In addition, DMZ Docs plans to pursue initiatives that realize the public value of documentaries at all times by continuing projects, such as special Darak(Docu&樂) online screenings and the documentary-based educational program Doc School.
A film festival with documentary creators
As a documentary industry platform, DMZ Docs continues its production support initiatives including DMZ Industry. By significantly increasing production subsidies and reflecting voices of production sites, DMZ Docs will introduce support projects that better meet the needs of creators.
Furthermore, DMZ Docs will continue to revitalize a production environment that has been constricted by COVID-19 through new initiatives such as support for documentary creator health rights as well as support for DMZ-based documentary production. DMZ Docs will support talented creators through various endeavors and help excellent works to reach more audiences this year as well.
