Yongin has been selected as a target city for traditional hanok branding by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as part of a project not just to promote traditional hanok architecture, but also to utilize hanok as accommodations that boost opportunities for visitors to experience traditional Korean culture while at the same time vitalizing opportunities for hanok communities and homeowner businesses. Among the 47 hanok accommodations designated nationwide, “Yerang” in Yongin received KRW 20 million in financial support from the ministry for operating expenses.

Yerang, a detached hanok that is spacious enough for families, features amenities such as outdoor barbecues, karaoke, and traditional game programs including yut-nori, jegichagi, tuho, and go. Its accessibility (40 minutes from Seoul; 15 minutes from Everland) attracts a long list of guests, and visitors can enjoy not just leisure time but also ecotherapy through the rustic beauty of hanok architecture against the backdrop of wholesome natural vistas while experiencing traditional Korean culture.

2. Korean Folk Village
Curious about how people lived during the Joseon Dynasty? The Korean Folk Village is an ideal place to experience Korean folk culture and customs that have been passed down through generations. It was established with the goal of providing a comprehensive experience in traditional culture to both domestic and international tourists through an educational approach. Since its establishment in 1974, the village has been admired by many as the perfect place to experience and learn about traditional Korean culture in beautiful natural surroundings.

The Korean Folk Village not only stages new and unique festivals for visitors every season, but also communicates with patrons through various social media channels. It holds the Evening Festival to celebrate the beautiful Joseon-era village under the moonlight every Saturday, Sunday and holiday from May 1 to Oct. 31.

The Korean Folk Village strives to ensure visitor safety through social distancing and the active implementation of COVID-19 protocols. Visitors are guided to purchase their tickets and enter at spaced intervals, and all patrons and staff members must wear masks and have their temperatures monitored while on site.
The Korean Folk Village, along with Petite France in Gapyeong County and Gwangmyeong Cave in Gwangmyeong City, was selected as a Unique Venue of Gyeonggi. The designation “Unique Venue” refers to a place that encompasses indoor facilities and a natural outdoor environment where the unique beauty and special charms of the location can be enjoyed apart from sites that typically surround MICE-oriented regions, such as convention centers and hotels.
