Located in Tanpong-dong of Dongducheon City, the studio is renowned as a shooting site for popular Korean shows including Tale of the Nine Tailed, The Penthouse, Busted!, and Those Who Cross the Line. The studio was built by late director Kim Jae-hyung, who is famous for King’s Woman, Tears of the Dragon and other TV shows from the 90s and early 2000s. According to Kim, Korean history is interrelated with Japan in many aspects; since traveling overseas to film historical dramas was costly, constructing Nijimori Studio was a way to reduce production costs.

Nowadays, Nijimori Studio operates as a theme park that welcomes tourists, and even features a variety of hand-on activities as well as accommodation facilities where visitors can enjoy a comfortable stay in an authentically traditional ryokan, a type of traditional Japanese inn.
The studio has seen a surge of visitors after its official opening as it is an accurate replica of a traditional Japanese village from the Edo period.

The studio is ideal for a day-trip as there are a number of facilities to explore; the village area features a beautiful lake surrounded by antique cafes and traditional restaurants, as well as a kimono rental shop and a small store selling snacks and drinks. Thanks to the meticulously recreated architecture, visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a foreign culture without having to go abroad during these uncertain times of restricted travel.
