Gyeonggi Province selects 20 “2022 Gyeonggi Tourism Festivals

With over 10 million residents, Gyeonggi Province is the most populous local autonomy in South Korea. It is also home to various outstanding local festivals that epitomize each of its regions.

Gyeonggi Light Festival @Gyeonggi Province.

The province has selected 20 representative Gyeonggi Tourism Festivals for 2022 through its Local Festival Evaluation Committee.

The selection of the Anyang Citizen Festival, Yangju Hoeamsaji Royal Festival, and Yeoncheon Street Cultural Festival for the first time has aroused public interest.

Gyeonggi Fireworks Festival @Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province has chosen festivals that could revitalize the local economy, and announced that it will fully support semi-contactless festivals while ensuring the implementation of infection control systems and safety measures.

The 20 selected festivals aim to affirm their local identity and will take place safely through the staging of online events if required.

Gyeonggi Cherry Blossom Festival @Gyeonggi Province.

The province has grouped the 20 festivals according to their assessment rankings. The festivals may use the corresponding subsidies for program operation and advertisement.

Out of total provincial subsidies of KRW 1.2 billion, the 6 top-ranked festivals will each receive KRW 80 million, the 8 middle-ranked festivals will receive KRW 60 million, and the 6 lower-ranked festivals will receive KRW 40 million won.

Gyeonggi Festival @Gyeonggi Province.

In addition to financial support, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will dispatch festival and event professionals for field consultations and promotion, and provide education and training to festival personnel so as to strengthen local festival competitiveness.

The province encourages traveling in small groups with its mobile stamp tour program (a stamp for every visit); it also supports online contests with field missions, drive-through farm produce sales, kiosk ticketing, and online reservation systems.

It is evident that Gyeonggi Province wholly supports the local economic invigoration through the safe hosting of festivals amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
