Gyeonggi Provides QR Codes and Foreign Language Subtitles for Exhibit Videos on Female Activists
In this “contactless” age, there are more online museums that you can experience through virtual reality (VR). When you can’t go to the exhibition you wish to see in person, you can now easily view it through a monitor at home.
Gyeonggi Province is holding the ‘Gyeonggi Female Icon Exhibit’ on the activities and achievements of local female activists in a VR format. The province organized this event in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Gyeonggi Women’s Vision Center.
Along with QR codes, foreign language subtitles were also provided. There are currently 3 supported languages: English, Japanese, and Chinese. This exhibit is a great opportunity for both Koreans and non-Koreans to learn about the achievements of these female icons in Korea.

Offline, you can visit the 1st floor of the Gyeonggi Women’s Vision Center in Paldal-gu of Suwon City to see the exhibit in person. Online, you can use QR codes to access the VR exhibition hall to experience the exhibit or visit the website of the Gyeonggi Women’s Vision Center (gg.go.kr/woman) to enjoy the exhibit.
Currently, the exhibit is being actively promoted on SNS channels, YouTube, the center’s website and elsewhere. On YouTube, there is a video featuring 4 female activists who tell their own stories.
You can also select English, Japanese, or Chinese subtitles for the videos. The subtitles are not automatically generated by YouTube but instead preprared by professional translators to ensure accuracy in meaning and delivery.

The exhibit is divided into 6 parts: Finding Hope for the Future in the Past of Women in Gyeonggi (1 & 2); Pre-modern Women; Independence Movement Activists (1 & 2); and Families of Independence Movement Activists. The exhibit was created vividly with photographs and letters still remaining clear even after zooming in.
Information should not be contained but instead shared throughout the world. Gyeonggi Province is expanding the online and offline domain of the exhibition hall to raise the status of Korea and to commemorate these female figures.
The combination of new technologies and provincial management will generate even greater synergy in the future.
