Namyangju City has launched an audio guide in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese for foreign visitors to its main cultural heritage attraction, the Jeong Yak-yong historic site.
The original Korean audio guide drew special attention as it was recorded by Korean heartthrob Jeong Hae-In, a sixth-generation grandson of Jeong Yak-Yong who is gaining popularity through the Netflix drama “D.P.”
Listed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, Jeong Yak-yong was a leading scholar of Silhak (“practical learning”) and a reformist in the late Joseon Dynasty. As an insightful scholar who was well-read in politics, literature, history, philosophy, science and technology, he wrote as many as 500 treatises including the renowned “Admonitions on Governing the People.”
