Gyeonggi Province of South Korea has launched a public wedding hall service through the Gyeonggi Sharing Service, enabling the utilization of public facilities as wedding halls at a low cost.
The Gyeonggi Sharing Service (share.gg.go.kr) is an integrated reservation service that allows anyone residing in Gyeonggi Province to conveniently reserve any of 2,800 facilities, including conference rooms, sports facilities, shared kitchens, and studios in Gyeonggi Province through a PC or smartphone.
The public wedding hall service is available through the Gyeonggi Sharing Service. The public wedding hall service information page provides details that enable users to easily check the location, cost and amenities of each venue, as well as a reservation menu for booking a venue after checking details.
There are 7 public venues available through the public wedding hall service: an open grass field at the former Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex in Suwon City; the main conference room of Uiwang City Hall; the outdoor exhibition area of the Suwon Museum; Neoreun Pond at Seongnam City Hall; Gamgodang in the Yeoju Sejong Culture & Tourism Foundation; Ilsan Lake Park in Goyang City; and the main conference room of the Pocheon Women’s Center.
Among these venues, the open grass field at the former Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex is an outdoor wedding space that is available from March to November at a cost of KRW 50,000 for 2 hours. Also, the parking lot and indoor space used for the bride’s waiting room are all free of charge.
Residents of Gyeonggi Province, people working in Gyeonggi, and those attending schools in the province are eligible to rent this open grass field for weddings. Those who wish to rent the space should make a reservation through the Gyeonggi Sharing Service at least seven days before the desired event date.
Couples should be aware that the public wedding service spaces are not ‘wedding-specialized’ facilities, so they should plan and hold their weddings individually or with private wedding operators. Nevertheless, the open grass field at the former Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex ,for example, is deemed an ideal wedding venue for couples who are pursuing a simple, eco-friendly wedding.
Kim Hye-ryeon, Director of Gyeonggi Province’s Asset Management Division, said “The public wedding service is in its initial stages with only a few venues, but we expect to contribute to resolving difficulties in the securing of wedding halls and reduction of wedding costs for couples.” She continued, “We will do our best to analyze the effects of the service in the future and will continue to expand options for couples through consultations with cities, counties and public institutions.”
Meanwhile, in order to open up more public resources and promote the use of its sharing services, Gyeonggi Province launched new reservation services last year for camping, various lessons and equipment rentals as well.
