Korean Food Trip: Suwon’s Chicken Street offers glimpses of Korean tradition.
As you may already have heard, Korea’s fried chicken is one of the top menu items loved by people of all ages. There is a Tongdak (fried chicken) Street – or Tongdakgeori – in Suwon that boasts over 50 years of history. 😎 Visitors can taste a variety of chicken from venerable chicken restaurants based on recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation, as well as specialty chicken like ‘Wang galbi’ (marinated) chicken.
Suwon City's Chicken Street, one of the must-visit tourist destinations in Korea, was also introduced by the popular Taiwanese media channels SET News and Eastern Broadcasting Company.
Suwon's Tongdakgeori refers to a street where many chicken restaurants have flocked together along Gaecheon Stream in an area adjacent to Namsumun Gate.
Korea’s Tongdak is a whole chicken cooked using an old-fashioned recipe that calls for frying the chicken in oil! Its crispy skin and soft meat is truly amazing. ❣️
Fun fact: Suwon's Tongdak Street emerged in the 1970s, and since the movie “Extreme Job,” people have learned that one of Suwon's representative foods is Tongdak. For an enhanced experience, enjoy a visit to Suwon's Tongdak Street after watching the Korean comedy film “Extreme Job.”
