This is the second story on Governor Dong Yeon Kim's recent overseas mission. Let's take a look at it together.
Proposal of Innovation Alliance between Gyeonggi Province and State of Michigan
On April 11, Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim met with Michigan State Governor Gretchen Whitmer to discuss a consensus on strategic industries such as electric vehicles, batteries, semiconductors, and renewable energy through a proposed innovation alliance.
'Innovation alliance' refers to a cooperative relationship for innovation economies. In particular, Governor Kim proposed the promotion of practical cooperation in new industries, such as cooperation between Korean companies located in Gyeonggi Province and companies in Michigan, which is the heart of the U.S. mobility industry.
Governor Whitmer gladly accepted the proposal, saying that they will gain synergy by working together. They had a positive conversation on specific areas in which they can cooperate more closely.
Visit to Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)
Before meeting with Governor Whitmer, Governor Kim visited the Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI), a hub of North American technology development and research for Hyundai and Kia. He discussed measures such as increasing the production of electric vehicles (EVs) and leased vehicles with HATCI President John Robb and others to help overcome Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) limitations.
HATCI also agreed to cooperate on educational opportunities for Gyeonggi Province youths and university students majoring in mobility, who will visit Michigan this summer. Furthermore, HATCI agreed to provide educational opportunities to youths participating in the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program.

The State of Michigan leads the response to climate change through the production of electric vehicles and batteries, leveraging its industrial advantages as the home of three major American car companies (GM, Ford, Fiat), as well as automotive part and industrial equipment companies. Gyeonggi Province signed its first friendly cooperation agreement with Michigan in September 2011. Since then, Gyeonggi Province has continued to maintain exchange and cooperative initiatives with Michigan.
