Bong Gongi's name is derived from the combination of the initial consonants of the Korean words for "change" and "opportunity," which are the core values of the 8th elected Gyeonggi provincial administration. Vertically arranged, these are 'bieup (ㅂ) + hieut (ㅎ)' and 'gieok (ㄱ) + hieut (ㅎ).'
