Did you know that Gatgol Ecological Park, with its vast areas of autumn flowers and reeds, originally served as a field for salt production?
Preserving the Heritage of an Old Salt Field
Located in Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province, Gatgol Eco Park is an inland wetland formed by the ebb and flow of seawater deep into the mainland, a rare sight in Korea. This ecological park was once used as a salt field, and now it welcomes visitors as an eco-friendly park. Traces of the old salt field, including salt warehouses and an experiential salt field center, can still be explored.
Habitat for Diverse Flora and Fauna
Various salt-tolerant plants, as well as crabs and other organisms, harmoniously coexist in the ecological park. Gatgol, in particular, is classified as a Grade 1 ecological environment in Siheung City and was designated as a National Coastal Wetland Conservation Area in February 2012.
Enjoying the Beautiful Ecosystem Landscape
The Gatgol Observation Deck, a landmark of the ecological park, is famous for its "swaying observation deck" that moves to and fro on windy days. Climb to the top for a bird's-eye view of the surrounding landscape, which abounds with cosmos, pink mulli, reeds and more!
