Gyeonggi Province makes waves in Davos, Switzerland.
From January 15 to 19, leaders from 120 countries gather for the 2024 World Economic Forum. 🌐
With over 60 heads of state and numerous global figures attending, Gyeonggi Province stands out as the only Korean local government leader invited to participate in this prestigious event, commonly known as the Davos Forum.
Gyeonggi Province is actively engaging in dynamic discussions, building a global network to address various issues locally and globally.
The exciting news from Davos is the agreement between the World Economic Forum and Gyeonggi Province to establish a 'Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.'
Let's delve deeper into what this center is and what we can expect!

On January 15 (GMT+1), Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim and World Economic Forum President Børge Brende signed an MOU on the establishment of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Gyeonggi Province plans to establish this center, tentatively named the 'Korea Innovation Center for People and the Planet,' around May this year.
'Korea Innovation Center for People and the Planet'
What does the center's name signify?
It emphasizes the human-centric aspect of technological advancement and the resolve to address ecological challenges like climate change.
What is the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR)?
The C4IR is a collaborative hub established by the World Economic Forum in various countries and regions to lead global cooperation and joint responses during this era of scientific and technological transformation.
Since the first center’s establishment in San Francisco, this initiative has expanded to 18 centers worldwide, including those established in Norway, Japan, and India. The centers play roles in building industry-academic-research networks, sharing technological trends, and pursuing research projects.
Focusing on climate change, smart manufacturing, and startups, the provisional 'Korea Innovation Center for People and the Planet' is expected to make a significant impact, especially in the startup sector, which has not been a primary focus of the other 18 centers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additionally, Gyeonggi Province participated in the Innovator Community event attended by over 90 global unicorn company leaders.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim had discussions with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on climate change response, BorgWarner Vice President Paul Farrell on investment in Gyeonggi Province, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on collaboration strategies.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the morning of January 16 (GMT+1), Governor Kim met Kai Beckmann, CEO of the Electronics division of Germany's Merck Group, at the Davos Congress Center to request investment in Gyeonggi Province's electronics material sector.
That afternoon, he introduced Gyeonggi Province's ‘Youth Ladder Policies’ to the President and ministers of Singapore and discussed cooperation with Liaoning Province, China. He also met with representatives from the central and local governments of Asian regions, further enhancing international exchanges.
