'Sansa Garden,' meaning 'Garden of Hawthorn Trees,' is a unique museum dedicated to gayangju, a type of traditional Korean liquor. The museum offers an in-depth look at the history, culture, and production process of Korea’s traditional alcoholic beverages.

Inside, you’ll find exhibition spaces and tasting areas, while the outdoor area provides a peaceful setting where you can lose track of time as you explore.

[Exploring the Museum] As you enter the museum and purchase your ticket, you’ll receive a souvenir voucher as well as a small cup that you’ll use later to sample various traditional liquors.
(Note: Minors can enter for free, but they are not allowed to participate in tastings.)

On the first floor, you’re greeted by a fascinating display of the history and culture of traditional Korean liquor. The exhibits include tools used in the production of traditional liquor and various historical documents related to brewing.
You can also see miniature figures that depict the brewing process, giving you a glimpse into the hands-on methods used by Koreans of past ages. It feels like stepping back in time and listening to a story from the past, enriching your appreciation for the deep flavors of traditional Korean liquor.
One highlight is the 'Gayangju Classroom,' where, after learning about the background of traditional liquor, you can try your hand at making your own. This program is reservation-only, so be sure to plan ahead!

[Tasting and Exhibits in the Basement]
Descending to the basement, you’ll find a tasting area featuring over 20 types of traditional liquors, including makgeolli (a Korean rice wine), fruit wines, medicinal wines, and distilled spirits. Here, you can sample rare and unique liquors that are hard to find in regular stores. If you discover a favorite, you can purchase it right on the spot.
Additionally, if you present your souvenir voucher at the checkout, you’ll receive a complimentary bottle of makgeolli, even if you don’t make a purchase. It’s a delightful way to take a bit of the experience home with you.
But the journey doesn’t end here! Next to the tasting area is the Woogok Memorial Hall, where you can learn about the brewing philosophy of Master Bae Sang-myeon, who dedicated his life to preserving traditional Korean liquor. After reflecting on the significance of these traditions, it’s time to step outside.
[Strolling Through the Sansa Garden]
The Sansa Garden features over 400 earthenware jars, each filled with fermenting liquor. The 'Sewollang' section of the garden is a traditional aging cellar for distilled spirits. The harmony between the rows of jars and the traditional Korean hanok architecture is truly stunning.

The liquor aging in these jars is shaped by time, the clay jars, pine trees, and the gentle mountain breeze. The jars are so large that you can’t wrap your arms around them, and an adult could easily fit inside one!
Just like this!
Speaking of which, there’s a photo zone where you can pose inside a giant jar —it’s actually a jar that’s been cut in half for visitors to enjoy a fun photo opportunity. *** Tips***
1. If you plan to taste the liquor, consider using public transportation instead of driving.
2. Wear comfortable shoes, as the grounds are spacious.
3. Book the 'Gayangju Classroom' experience in advance.
4. Enjoy discounted admission by booking through Naver
(Note: Same-day reservations are not available).

Feeling weary from the hustle and bustle of daily life?
Take a leisurely stroll through a tranquil mountain valley, savor the passage of time alongside aging jars of liquor, and immerse yourself in the serene ambiance of Sansa Garden
