Have you heard of the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum)?

The forum is a prestigious gathering where political and economic leaders from around the world meet to discuss the future of the global landscape. It is often referred to as the "Olympics of the Global Economy" due to its significant influence and recognition.

This year, Gyeonggi Province has been invited as the only local government in Korea to participate in this highly influential event!

After arriving in Davos, Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim attended the Innovator Community Reception, meeting with various leaders from the innovation sector.

The reception brought together over 100 unicorn company CEOs to exchange ideas and insights. 

Governor Kim met with over 20 unicorn CEOs, deepening ties and discussing potential collaboration with these global innovation leaders.

At this forum, Gyeonggi Province is working to showcase its impressive economic potential and resilience, while raising its global profile as a representative of Korea’s economy.

On January 21 (local time), Governor Kim held a session with world media leaders. The session, titled “A Dialogue with Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong Yeon Kim,” provided an update on Korea’s political and economic landscape. 

This special session, organized by the Davos Forum, was the first of its kind led by a Korean local leader from the opposition party.

Governor Kim highlighted Korea’s economic potential and resilience, offering three key solutions to address current challenges. He also reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding the economy and restoring democracy.

This session was a significant opportunity for global leaders to better understand the current situation in Korea and to foster trust and a shared vision for the future. 

In addition, Governor Kim met with prominent international figures, including former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, France’s Minister of Trade, and Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, to explore opportunities for collaboration with Gyeonggi Province.

With Al Gore, the Governor emphasized Korea’s democratic resilience and introduced Gyeonggi Province’s climate policies, extending an invitation for him to visit.

In his meeting with French Minister of Trade Laurent Saint-Marc, they discussed expanding cooperation in sectors such as semiconductors, AI, and batteries. They also agreed on the need for stronger collaboration amid global supply chain uncertainties. 

Furthermore, during his meeting with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gam Kim Yong, Governor Kim requested enhanced cooperation in areas like startups, trade, and youth exchange.

Looking ahead, Gyeonggi Province is set to participate in the “Competition for Clean Electricity” session on January 22 and the upcoming World Economic Leaders' Gathering (IGWEL) on January 23.

Through these meetings with world leaders and CEOs of global companies, Governor Kim aims to cultivate investment opportunities and enhance global collaboration.

Governor Kim will continue his participation in the Davos Forum until January 24, working diligently to showcase Gyeonggi’s economic strength and resilience. 

By emphasizing the strengths of Korea’s democracy, economy, and industries, Governor Kim seeks to rebuild trust and promote a vision for the future.

As Gyeonggi Province continues to strive towards becoming a shining economic hub on the world stage, it remains committed to its mission of global growth and collaboration!
